There is no question that English writer, Alan Moore, is nothing short of a genius. But with so many of his graphic novels, including the upcoming film “Watchmen”, being adapted for the big screen, Moore has been vocal about his distaste for Hollywood. According to a recent interview in the L.A. Times:

“I find film in its modern form to be quite bullying,” Moore said. “It spoon-feeds us, which has the effect of watering down our collective cultural imagination. It is as if we are freshly hatched birds looking up with our mouths open waiting for Hollywood to feed us more regurgitated worms. The ‘Watchmen’ film sounds like more regurgitated worms. I for one am sick of worms. Can’t we get something else? Perhaps some takeout? Even Chinese worms would be a nice change.”
With many of his graphic novels brought to the big screen, including “From Hell”, “The League of Extraordinary Gentlemen”, and “V for Vendetta”, Moore has never felt that the films can do justice to the original literature and he feels no different for the March bound release of “Watchmen”.

It appears independent car makers are stepping up amid crazy gas prices to bring some stylish green into our lives. The just-announced Scorpion ($TBA) from Ronn Motor Company is a sexy speedster that will run on a 30-40 ratio blend of gas and hydrogen, promising around 40 mpg efficiency while still being able to hit 60 mph in 3.5 seconds. The fuel for the hydrogen-on-demand system is “derived from fracturing water molecules drawn from a small on board water tank, and will not require a high pressure, on board hydrogen storage tank or hydrogen fueling station,” according to the company. The carbon fiber beauty is now in pre-production, with availability scheduled for this fall. Thx Uncrate!

Furniture designer Hugo França. The Brazilian designer carves stunningly elemental–and incredibly large-scale–furnishings from discarded Amazonian Indian canoes and fallen Pequi trees, some dating to 1,000 years old. Among the beautifully sculpted pieces are low-slung coffee tables, languorous chaises, and enormous room dividers. França’s creative process, which is equal parts brute force (chain saws, chisels) and pure imagination (he has an otherworldly, almost spiritual communion with the trees and an ability to “see”–and then expose–their inner form). The utterly simple lines belie the complexity of the laborious handcraftsmanship that goes into making them. Check out more here.

Powered by a 425hp 6.1L Hemi engine, the 2008 Dodge Challenger SRT8 has “got one of the sweetest exhaust notes you’ll hear this side of a Flowmaster muffler”, according to Inside Line. Of those, 4,000 are already sold. With all the standard leather inside and all kinds of high-tech stuff in the instrument panel, it’s something of a performance bargain at its $40,095 base price.

According to an employee at UPS, 3 of the workers where fired for stealing copys of Grand Theft Auto IV from there shipment boxes.
“I spoke to an employee of UPS over the weekend, and he told me that a surprising amount of workers were getting busted stealing the game from the shipment boxes. In one 24-hour period, three workers were fired, and more interviews were scheduled for today that would likely end in termination.” read more

That medicinal marijuana vending machine in L.A. has officially been stolen by the DEA. I live around the corner from the dispensary that features the famous vending machine, and spoke with the manager. The Feds destroyed a perfectly legal California business tonight.
