Samurai Sword Handle Umbrella

March 9, 2009

“Fight the Rain

The rain falls softly.
The samurai draws his sword.
Look, an umbrella.

Either we just made it up, or that Haiku dates to around the 14th century. It is a little known fact that Samurai also carried umbrellas. Much as they later had to disguise their swords as canes, so they disguised their umbrellas as swords. In fact, there was one skilled umbrella maker who all the Samurai relied on for their Sword Handle Umbrellas. His name has been buried in the sands of time, but his plans have been preserved. And now, it is with great pleasure that we offer to you, the Samurai Sword Handle Umbrella.

Glide it out of its nylon sheath. Hold it by its space-age plastic handle. Feel the balance. This is the umbrella you never knew you always wanted. No one will mess with you with this slung across your back, and even the rain will shudder when you pull it out. For, apart from looking unbelievably awesome, the Samurai Sword Handle Umbrella is a dang fine umbrella. It will keep you dry and the envy of your friends. Precipitation doesn’t stand a chance. “

Mannequins brought to light!

March 4, 2009

From the vaults of the talented (and somewhat imaginatively named) Daniel Loves Objects, comes a creation that will capture the imagination of one and all. We have all looked at the omnipresent mannequins and often wondered what if they come to life. In “At Your Command” the Singapore-based designer has endowed these with life, oops I meant light. The AT Your Command is (presumably) a concept lamp that installs a mannequin where the body of a lamp is usually found. The form of the lamp is made all the more appealing by removing the wires, and panache is added by gold plating the mannequin. With the joints of the mannequin made movable, At Your Command submits itself to the user’s imagination. Interesting and stylish, this one is just perfect to spice up decor.
