Huf: Spring/Summer 2008 Clothing Line

May 21, 2008

Huf recently released their most ambitious cut and sew line for this Spring/Summer 2008. What started out as a mainly a t-shirt brand, Keith Hufnagel (the New York skate legend who’s now based out of San Francisco) has carefully crafted into a skate and street culture institution.

Their newest line seems a bit more grown-up than past editions with conservatively-colored button down cotton shirts and some clean-cut jackets. The stereotypical scruffy skate kid might look a bit more refined the next time you see him.

We expect and hope the line will continue to grow and become a focal point of the brand in the future. Check out and purchase from their Sutter Store. Or better yet, they recently went live with an online store where we can expect to find some select pieces.

More Luxurious Eco-Friendly Solid Wood Furnishings!

May 19, 2008

Furniture designer Hugo França. The Brazilian designer carves stunningly elemental–and incredibly large-scale–furnishings from discarded Amazonian Indian canoes and fallen Pequi trees, some dating to 1,000 years old. Among the beautifully sculpted pieces are low-slung coffee tables, languorous chaises, and enormous room dividers. França’s creative process, which is equal parts brute force (chain saws, chisels) and pure imagination (he has an otherworldly, almost spiritual communion with the trees and an ability to “see”–and then expose–their inner form). The utterly simple lines belie the complexity of the laborious handcraftsmanship that goes into making them. Check out more here.

Here we have two classic nameplates, each with a 400-horsepower V8 stuffed into a smallish four-door body shell and powering only the rear wheel”

Herb Snips - Multi-Blade Shredding Scissors

May 17, 2008

Essentially a pair of scissors with multiple parallel blades, herb snips effortlessly expedite the tiresome act of mincing. With their help, scallions or other fresh herbs can instantly transform into a manageable, chopped pile. This take on herb snips features five three-inch stainless steel blades stacked on each silicone-coated arm. And although they’ll likely remain in the arsenal of only the most pampered chefs, they also double as great low-tech household shredders. You can buy the herb snips for $13 at Chef’s Catalog.

BlackBerry Thunder: RIM’s upcoming touchscreen device

May 16, 2008

We’ve all known it was going to come eventually, and the amazing Boy Genius has found out some information on the very secretive device. First off, apparently the touchscreen device is called the BlackBerry Thunder, or known as the BlackBerry 9500 when referring to the model number. Rumored to be out in Q3 of this year, the device takes advantage of a full touchscreen with only four buttons gracing the surface (send and end keys, the BlackBerry key, and a back key). The most intriguing piece of knowledge, however, is that Vodafone and Verizon will have the device as a worldwide and lifetime exclusive. This exclusivity is definitely big for Verizon, considering it will need something to compete against the supposed 3G iPhone exclusive to AT&T. The only catch is that if Verizon doesn’t meet a certain sales number, than bye-bye exclusivity. Apparently the device will not only be CDMA with EV-DO Rev. C (which is high speed and almost extinct), but may also have some form of high-speed 4G capability. Also, the device could feature GSM with 3G capability for international travels.  Be prepared everyone, because the Thunder is coming, so look out for it. Note: the picture used is a mockup provided by The Boy Genius Report and is all we have to think about until someone catches sight of the tightly concealed Thunder.
